Proteas have defeated Australia by 3 wickets in an enthralling contest in the first ODI held at MCG today. The match contained all the elements which a One Day game boasts off.
Australia batting first made 271-8 in their allotted quota of 50 overs. Shaun Marsh Top scored for them with a blistering 79.David Hussey also played a crucial role in the Australian total with his rapid 52 off 50 balls.
In reply to Australia, South Africa were in a little bit of trouble wickets of Hershelle Gibbs and Hashim Amla. But their inning gained momentum and solidity because of the partnership between Neil McKenzie and JP Duminy. Both scored fifties with Duminy being the dominant partner. Their innings fluttered again with around 50 more runs to get after they lost both McKenzie and Duminy in short span of time. But a blistering knock of 40 from 18 balls from Albie Morkel took them home with 2 balls to spare.
In the end, Albie Morkel was named the Man Of the Match for his blistering knock which took the Proteas home.
